This just in.. my Loving County story ran in Rotterdam's newspaper, NRC Handelsblad. I spent the day in Loving County a few months back making friends and taking photos. So happy to see that climbing the water tower was worth it!

Campania In-Felix

Matt Nager. May 2010. Fort Worth, Texas © Allison V. Smith

I have really enjoyed staying in touch with my fellow photographer friend, Matt Nager and his girlfriend Ivana Corsale's documentary film project through their blog, Campania in-Felix (unhappy country). The two are in Naples, Italy now working on their film that explores the effects of illegal toxic material dumping in rural and inhabited areas in the Southern region of Italy. Check out their film blog here and Matt's personal blog here. I can't wait to see the work!

I photographed my senior friend and former photo student, Rachael Davis, earlier this week. Above are some of my favorites from our late afternoon shoot. Rachael is creative, beautiful and plays the piano effortlessly. I look forward to being friends forever.

This mug shot of 10-year-old George Davey shot in 1872 and found on The National Archive's flickr page has been haunting me. Poor kid was sentenced to one month's hard labour in Wandsworth Prison for stealing two rabbits. If you are into it, here are a few links to other shared archives on flickr:

Last month I was assigned to photograph the Chef Point Cafe in Watagua, Texas for the New York Times travel section. The cafe is a Conoco gas station gone 5star cuisine just outside of Fort Worth. I tried their unforgettable waffles&fried chicken. A combination I would never have thought I would crave. Yum!

It's time to say good-bye to my very first website. It should be up for one more day before the new-n-improved one goes LIVE! This is more sentimental than I expected.
