It's officially fair season.
Today they hoisted my favorite cowboy into place at the fair grounds.
Count down to corny dogs & photo ops.

This is one of those assgts that makes grown men cower. The light is always so vicious when Tex rises. Reminds me of Sam Abell's quote: "In Texas, the sun doesn't shine, it strikes."
I have always been fond of this assignment. Today it was self assigned. The first time I shot it , circa 1992-3? , the creator of Big Tex's head, who at the time was in his 80s road on top of his head as they hoisted just the head then lowered it on his body. Talk about a photo op.
