Our public retailing genius Mr. Stanley had a private passion for photography. As he expanded the family business into an international fashion retailing powerhouse, his eclectic eye captured thousands of unique shots along the way: behind-the-scenes events, friends, streetscapes, storefronts, and personalities. Later in life he gathered up his slide library and gave it to his granddaughter, professional photographer Allison V.Smith. Allison and her mother, art consultant Jerrie Marcus Smith, culled through thousands of shots in this amazing legacy to bring us a rare visual chronicle of the world through Stanley Marcus’ eyes: Reflection of a Man. With an introduction by Oscar de la Renta and 192 color images spanning 1935 to 1966, it also is a fitting tribute to Mr. Stanley, his vision, and his legacy.
